A few weeks ago we acquired two waiting room benches from The Midland Railway, Butterley.
As you can see from the first three photos, they were not in the best condition (to say the least!)....
However, we're so pleased that Andrew from Fred's Shed Antiques & Restorations agreed to take on the challenge of their restoration and to (hopefully) transform them from tatters into smart benches that we can have inside the Wingfield station booking hall for our opening events during October and November.
Andrew has now made a start. As you can see with the last three photos, he has stripped them down to the bare frame, minus all the old seating material, and he is now working on making them structurally safe.
We're hoping to visit his workshop to take some film when Andrew is putting the wood dye on them and doing some French polishing. Watch this space!!
