Drawing Wirksworth: Exploring Historical Buildings Through Sketching

Writer's picture: AdminAdmin

Take time to observe, draw, and immerse yourself in history on Saturday 17th May 2025, from 10:30am to 12:30pm, in Wirksworth.

This relaxed morning workshop offers a unique opportunity to explore the architectural heritage of the the DHBT's HQ building on Greenhill, Hopkinson's House, and the buildings around St Mary’s Churchyard.

The session begins with a 20-30 minute talk by local historian Barry Joyce MBE FSA  , setting the scene with insights into the heritage and significance of the buildings. Following this, artist Jenny Stevenson will guide you through the rest of the session with on-location drawing, focusing on everything from intricate architectural details to capturing the overall character of the historic setting.

Drawing historic buildings encourages us to observe, interpret, and connect with their rich history and craftsmanship, preserving their unique character in a personal and thoughtful way. Whether you’re an artist or an architecture enthusiast, this workshop emphasises the enjoyment of the process over the end result.

A goody bag with basic materials is included, but feel free to bring your own along. Beginners welcome! Spaces are limited, so book now via Eventbrite. Tickets are £18.
