In the heart of Derbyshire, situated on the Cromford Canal, stands Aqueduct Cottage, a historical gem which, over the past 4 years, has been transformed into an extraordinary information and activity centre led by a dedicated group of community volunteers. The judges felt this ambitious restoration project, facilitated by the Derbyshire Wildlife Trust, deserved to be recognised for its exceptional contribution to both heritage preservation and community engagement.
In 2021, Volunteer Project Manager, Ron Common, received the Conservation Champion award in recognition of his huge input towards the transformation of Aqueduct Cottage. It now stands as a testament to the power of community collaboration, historical preservation, and environmental stewardship.
As Ron rightly stated, 'This project serves as an inspiration, reminding us of the profound influence that a united community can have on preserving our past while shaping a better future.'
