Come and celebrate the launch of Wingfield Station with us on Saturday 28th October from 11am - 4pm!
We've got a fun day planned:
Start your visit at South Wingfield Social Club and find out some of the intriguing stories that our dedicated research team has uncovered about the station, as well as seeing work by South Wingfield Primary School and photography by University of Derby students.
Then catch the shuttle bus down to the station itself.
Shirland Brass Band will be raising the roof at 11am and 12.30pm, and the Alfreton Male Voice Choir are lined up to bring a harmonious close to the day from 3pm.
Dust down any recollections you have of the station in decades past to deposit for safe keeping in our ‘memory bank’.
Chat with John in the Goods Shed about the new visitor centre that will be opening there in April 2024. John will have his working scale model of Wingfield set in 1947 for people to see.
Younger visitors can find out about the station’s place in the transport revolution with our family trail. Get a stamp from our Ticket Officer and meet the passengers from the past in the waiting room, courtesy of 'On Track Productions' and our other Victorian living-history re-enactors.
PLEASE NOTE: CAR PARKING IS VERY LIMITED We recommend travelling to South Wingfield by bus if possible.
Car parking will be available on a 'first come- first served' basis at South Wingfield Social Club (43 High Road, DE55 7LX).
We'll have a shuttle bus running between the Social Club and Wingfield Station throughout the day at regular intervals.
To help us anticipate visitor numbers and manage parking, we’d be really grateful if you could let us know if you plan to come, by booking through Eventbrite (link below with more details).
You are welcome to arrive at any point during the day.
Hope to see you then - check our website for the full programme of events during October and early November.
